A national memorial service in Canberra has marked 25 years since 353 asylum seekers drowned when a fishing boat bound for Christmas Island sank.
The sinking of SIEV X on October 19, 2001, is the deadliest known asylum seeker boat disaster in Australia’s history.
The names of many of the drowning victims have never been made public.
